According to studies erectile dysfunction is more common in veterans. Veterans have done a great service to our country and are the people who have directly provided the freedoms we have as a nation today. We should always be thankful for our veterans and those who have served our country. Mental health and stress directly have an impact on erectile dysfunction and our veterans have had their fair share of stress over the years. New Vitality Centers offers veterans and first responders a discount on services.

Several physical and mental health conditions, including erectile dysfunction, are more common in U.S. veterans, according to a recent Military Medicine study. Veterans reported symptoms of erectile dysfunction in 14% of cases, according to studies regardless of age. The Boston University School of Medicine estimates national average of Americans experience sexual dysfunction is 10%.

The study, which polled around a thousand male veterans, showed that men with erectile dysfunction typically were older than 60 years of age and often fought in combat or during the Vietnam War.

Many factors played a role in those experiencing erectile dysfunction which is very frustrating. Among men with erectile dysfunction, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity, arthritis, and sleep disorders were the five physical comorbidities that were most prevalent. When it comes to mental health issues, those with erectile dysfunction were most likely to experience depression, possible PTSD, and generalized anxiety disorder.

The study’s conclusion reads, “The findings also agree with evidence demonstrating that both acute and chronic psychological stress may affect erectile function.” “Like earlier research, U.S. veterans with ED were considerably more likely to have been diagnosed with a number of concomitant medical problems and severe mental disorders.”

This confirms and relates back to previous studies regarding male veterans with PTSD being more likely than civilians to report erectile dysfunction. In addition to this, the current study specifically addresses these concerns in U.S. veterans, who are shown to have a higher risk of physical and mental health conditions.
